Before you apply, its important you know a few things. Firstly, Velez has a very fast paced environment, and keeping up is vital. There will always be people to help you along the way, and we don’t expect you to know everything on your first day. Secondly, we work part of a team every day, whether that is within the company or within your own team, we are always working together to make great things happen. This means being able to work as a team, as well as independently, is vital. Lastly, you don’t need to know everything about IT Services to work at Velez, in fact- most people don’t! We’re here to teach you along the way, although a little prior knowledge always helps.

This is more important than you think. When there are multiple positions open, a lot of the time candidates apply for the most fun or highest paying, which in the long term turns out to be the wrong choice. We ensure our employees have the correct skills and requirements for each individual job role, meaning applying for jobs that aren’t for you will leave you with no luck. Read each job description and apply for what you think you will succeed in. After all, once working at Velez, you may have opportunity to move to a different position you believe suits you, and we always encourage progression, leading to individual growth, promotions, and achievements.
The myths of “you have to know somebody” to get a job at a company is almost always incorrect within any industry, and always incorrect at Velez. We hire based on factors such as experience, skill and willingness to learn, rather than knowing the right person who can “get you in”. Whilst a great reference is noticed, everyone is assessed equally, no matter who you know.
Brag about yourself
When applying for a job at Velez, don’t be shy in making yourself sound great- make it easy for us to see how amazing you are at what you do. We can receive multiple job applications- too many to count! – which makes it difficult for us to choose who stands out the most. Its your job to make this easy. Anything you think might be relevant to the job role should always be mentioned- notice we said relevant, don’t mention about your fitness skills when applying for a role in finance.
Like mentioned before, always ensure the job you apply for is fit for you, even if its not where you want to be eventually, as we always make sure progression is monitored and rewarded. You have much more chance getting the role in something fit for you, rather than aiming above your head. We can sometime receive multiple job applications for different positions from the same person. This can be noticed easily, and makes it seem like you aren’t passionate about the job you’re applying for.
Remember your Application isn’t your Interview
Your application is the starting point of your recruitment process, so make it exciting. You’ll have time to explain all the great things about yourself in your interview, but your application and CV should be a starting point for us to want to find out more. Keep all good points concise, and mention everything you think is relevant for the job role. Presentation isn’t valued over content at Velez, meaning we’ll take more interest in a CV showing important skills and values over a heavily designed and edited document which looks visually pleasing. Allow your personality to show through your application, as we’re looking for more than qualifications- we want to know if you’ll fit into our teams. You can bullet point, paragraph, whatever is best for you- just make sure you stand out. We want to know who you are, why you want the job and why you should get the job- what makes you amazing?

Our applicants personal information, such as age, gender, and ethnicity isn’t shared with the manager of the team looking to hire you, meaning there is no chance of prejudice when choosing between applicants. Our People Operations Team at Velez are pretrained in recruitment to ensure your data is protected by GDPR, and all legal protocols and guidelines are followed each step of the way. You will always have one point of contact throughout your entire application and recruitment process until you have secured your role, in which you will be contacted by your new manager.
With recent events, we have protocols in place to ensure your safety around COVID-19 restrictions. All interviews with us are performed virtually over Zoom or Microsoft Teams to reduce contact, and in the stage you make it to the final interview, you may be asked to visit us in the office closest to you- where you will be working. All visitors are required to wear mask when visiting our offices and advised to take a Covid test, however this isn’t necessary.
